The pleasure of the organic extra-virgin olive oil: a scent of freshness
Podere Vecciano has been recognized as a premium olive oil producing farm. Its certified organic extra-virgin oil comes from various varietals of indigenous olives: Frantoio, Leccino, Pendolino, hand-picked and locally pressed within a few hours of harvesting.
The grove only counts 600 trees (partly old and partly recently planted) distributed in two ha. Soon after buying the farm Catia and Davide first addressed their attention to the vineyards that were in very poor conditions indeed.
It was only after they succeeded, with steady commitments and financial sacrifices, in bringing the vineyards to the gorgeous conditions you can see today that they turned to the olive grove. Naturally this was in state of neglect too: the old still fruitful trees were taken care of whilst the dead ones were cut down and new trees planted (Ghiacciola and Rossina, two varietals carefully chosen by Davide).
Acidity and oxidation are very low indeed. Naturally we use all our experience and attention also in the olive grove, especially in pruning and picking. Any arising problems are solved by means of organic/biodynamic controls.
